What kind of function could I use for getting the updated data in C++?

I am developing a graphics designing tool using C++. My question is, I have a set of image file it has to test every time but I don’t need to check the old image or perfect image, I just want to test the updated image or new image So what kind of function would prefer for solving the problem.
