K-means clustering on point cloud data

I am trying to implement K-means clustering algorithm on a pcd file. I am not sure, however, how to import the data as input for the k-means member of pcl. The documentation has proven to be a little confusing. Any ideas as to how can I import a pcd file as input for a k-means clustering?
