How to take values between two characters while parsing from a file?

I'm trying to parse an input file however I got stuck while taking values between dashes. Here is the input's part:

1--Type--2--3

I'm supposed to take all values between dashes(1,Type,2,3).If there were one dash it would be easy but I couldn't find how to ignore two successive characters. Any help would be appreciated.
