C++ Write input String to active box on the screen

Is there an alternative to write a C++ program that will be able to write a String to an active box (or any graphical text input, like Notepad) on the screen, simullating a keyboard event without using the windows API?

Like a 3rd party lib or at least, a lighter way than match every character of the String against a keyboard code?
